discovering the beauty of the world through photography
As you know medium format cameras are the next leap upwards from DSLR - although with the amazing resolution power of the new Nikon D800 not as great a leap as 12 months ago.Medium format camera…Continue

I've been having a problem for some time with my images looking over sharpened when reduced for the web. I think I've found the answer and thought I'd share it.I been told (by people who should know)…Continue

A number of members, myself included have had a grizzle from time to time about uploaded images taking on an oversaturated look on the LPO site, but being OK on the slide show. I think I have tripped…Continue

I can guarantee that there isn't a photographer around who could not be spellbound by the cinematography and images used. I'd recommend to everyone they make the time to catch it.
The film is a series of images filmed in 70mm with a music backing (no dialogue). It is stunningly beautiful, confronting and depressing - all at the same time.
The message behind the images is…

Members with trading names should be aware the law has recently changed. I should say I'm not a lawyer and the following is only my (possibly incorrect) understanding of the new situation.
Previously you could just have a trading name and didn't necessarily have to register a business name. What was a state registration system has been scrapped in favour of national registration controlled by (you guessed it) ASIC (the government watchdog that just keeps on giving - providing it…

I'd like to add my compliments to Ian Wallace and his co-contributors for the excellent photo book they put together on Tasmania. I edit a monthly magazine for a Melbourne 4WD club and I can appreciate putting this project together would have been a huge task.
Great images, but you've set the benchmark fairly high for your next effort!

Darren J Bennett said… Thanks for your wonderful comments Robert, it's always great to receive feedback from fellow photographers, l'm hoping to tee up some workshops throughout 2012, if time permits. I have taken on the role of Introductory Course Coordinator at the MCC, so that will take some time and effort, but will be good for pushing my workshop skills further, we usually have 40 plus students enrolled for each course with the first course kicking off in early Feb.
Hop to catch up with you out in the field,
Regards,
Darren J.

To the question, that's a large order and I don't have a ready answer. Technical improvement, of course, I aspire to be more than OK. I haven't chosen this subject matter so much as it chose me, spoke to me. I suppose my immediate goal is to work with the landscape we are richly surrounded by but largely ignore. Nature is so familiar and yet so utterly foreign. I'm using photography to peer into this mystery, as I'm most of the members here are, I'm just looking into a slightly different landscape. I suppose that the photos are questions into the nature of nature. I don't want to sound ridiculous or pretentious, I think my activity is an effort to understand landscape, and what I am projecting onto it.
As to my long range goals as a photographer, well that's quite fluid or malleable, I'm just getting started, really, and am curious to see where this takes me.
I will say that I find your photo Victorian High Country compelling and evocative.
Sorry about the ramble.
Thanks,
thomas
